(10 days, 100 hours with some night work)

Recognizing the fact that trained LRS and Recon personnel are in short supply due to competing requests, TTOS has devised this course that will take MI, Infantry and other non-specialist soldiers and train them to provide their units with competent operators to be used to gather optically acquired immediate use intelligence and information on the battlefield.

The surveillance component on this course will be conducted by John Morgando, a former professional hunter, who is regarded as one of the leading practitioners in the world today in optical equipment usage. John taught himself techniques to extend and enhance the use of both telescopes and binoculars for field use whilst on safari operations across the USA and Alaska. John recently trained members of a Recon unit in his techniques and asked to state the % improvement in their optical observation skills the group recorded between 60 and 300% improvement. John currently works in an occupation where he continues to research and improve his observational abilities that will be passed on to attending students.

The course consists of 12 modules

  1. Camouflage and concealment in current battlefield terrains.
  2. Field-craft and tactical movement.
  3. Familiarity with Optics and their use in diverse terrains and conditions.
  4. Day and night observation techniques
  5. New surveillance technologies.
  6. Construction of short and long term hides.
  7. Mitigating counter observation
