The fundamental rules that a visual tracker must remember can be summed up in the TTOS acronym, TRACKING.

Tracker sets the pace
Record your starting point
Always know where you are
Confirm on aerial spoor
Keep in visual contact
Identify the correct spoor to follow
Never go past last known spoor
Get in the mind of your quarry

Visual indicators are divided by TTOS into eight (8) categories, which can be remembered by using our acronym GASBUBBL.

Ground Spoor (Regularity, Flattening, Transference, Color Change, Disturbance)
Aerial Spoor

Blood Spoor
Unobservable Indicators
Body Waste
Boobytrap/IED sign
